Students’ Experience in Inter-state Living (SEIL) is a voluntary organization operational in North-East India since 1966. It promotes national integration and is continuously working to strengthen the unity among the people across our nation. The vision of SEIL is to establish a communication between remote areas of our country and other parts of India.
SEIL has been organizing national integration tours, career guidance courses and personality development camps especially for the students from northeastern states.
SEIL tour-Pune:
This year (2012) SEIL tour is scheduled in Pune from 16th December to 18th December 2012. 30 students from northeast India will visit the city and stay with the host families.
A college campus visit is also arranged aimed at exchange of ideas and thoughts among peer group. The students will enjoy ‘Pune Darshan’ where they will visit historical sites, educational institutes and prominent places in Pune. It also includes a public function which will be open to all.
This SEIL tour is more significant on the background of 50 years of Indo-China war which is one of the reasons of commencement of SEIL’s national integration tours.
Objectives:
• To develop a think-tank, working mainly on issues concerning North-East India.
• To preserve and promote the traditional folk arts, festivals and specialities of the societal life of these areas.
• To develop leadership talents among youth through various programs and orientation.
• To spread awareness about the oneness of our nation through a number of opinion making activities.
• To promote research on issues related to the overall development of the North-East India.
• To create a development oriented work culture, where dignity of work is of paramount importance.
• To make people aware about north east India’s contribution in enriching the ‘Bharatiya Culture’.
SEIL activities:
1966 – Shri Padmanabh Acharya and Shri Dilip Paranjpe visited North-East India. 80 students from northeast India visited Maharashtra and Goa.
1968 – My Home is India (MHI) project launched. 39 students of the age group of 12 to 16 years from Arunachal Pradesh took up their schooling at Mumbai, Delhi etc.
1977 – National Integration Conference at Guwahati. 300 students from north east India participated.
1979 – Shri Gegong Apang, the then Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh joined 26 students from Arunachal Pradesh during their visit to Maharashtra and Goa.
1981 – A group of four tribal leaders from Meghalaya and Assam namely Hipshon Roy – leader of Seng Khasi Movement, Shri B. D. Pugh – editor of Shilong based journal NEVOICE, Khasi leader Oudorson Mawrie and Bodo leader Shri. Jaleshar Brahma visited Mumbai on the invitation of SEIL.
1985 – A “Know Our North-east” campaign was successfully organized in Kolkata and in Mumbai.
1989 – ‘On the spot 89’ – Six study tours were conducted in north-east India on the subjects, such as a) Drug Menaces in Manipur b) Chakma refuges problem in Tripura.
1990-91 – Silver Jubilee year of SEIL. This year was celebrated by organizing ‘Utsav Purbanchal’.
2002 – For the expansion of activities of SEIL it was decided to launch two unique projects -
a) A multipurpose training cum information centre at Guwahati.
b) ‘National Centre of SEIL’ at Delhi.
2004 – ‘Yuva Vikas Kendra’ a multi-purpose training cum information centre was started with its activities on 27th February 2004.
2008 - Construction of residential wing of ‘Yuva Vikas Kendra’, for providing accommodation facility for the students coming from Interior parts of North-east India
